Local A Cappella Sensation Urban Method Appears With Men’s Chorus Ranked 3rd In The World

Sound of the Rockies at CD Release Concert June 16th, 7:30 pm at DU Newman Center

On Saturday June 16th, Colorado-based nonprofit, Sound of the Rockies will be teaming up with the all-vocal hip-hop group Urban Method to release their newest recording to the public.  In an all a cappella super showcase, the two groups will be putting on a show at 7:30 pm in the beautiful Gates Concert hall at The University of Denver, Newman Center.  Tony Huerta, the founding member of Urban Method and a finalist on NBC’s 2011 singing competition The Sing Off has been providing live sound and recording production for the internationally ranked men’s chorus for over 8 years with his local audio production company, Sonic Audio.  This collaborative concert will introduce many of the Sound of the Rockies’ barbershop audience to “hip-hop-a-pella” and vice versa, the 3rd Place 130-member Men’s chorus will inspire fans of Urban Method with their signature “wall of sound,” creativity, and award winning entertainment abilities.

The all a cappella men’s chorus, Sound of the Rockies, entertains throughout the Denver-metro area at local community arts series programs and festivals, has been a part of Light the Lights at the Civic Center Park, and has performed the National Anthem at Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos games multiple times. The chorus also supports area youth outreach programs and music education for students from elementary school to the collegiate level.  The Sound of the Rockies competes as a part of the nine-state Rocky Mountain District and has placed in the top five choruses at international-level competition in the Barbershop Harmony Society for the last five years.   In their most recent competition in Kansas City in July of 2011, the chorus placed 3rd among over 800 competitors from 9 different countries. Regionally, they have been the chorus champion of the Rocky Mountain District for ten years in a row.  The ensemble presents two annual concerts at the Newman Center in March and December and prospective members and guests are welcome each week for regular rehearsals on Thursday evenings at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Centennial, Colorado.

On June, 16th the group will be releasing its fifth recording featuring songs that audiences have grown to love over the last decade and is the first recording the group has released in over 4 years.  It is a much anticipated event and with the help of Urban Method as well as a few of the best local barbershop quartets this show is sure to be the highlight of Denver’s a cappella entertainment scene this summer.  Tickets are available from $20 by calling the Sound of the Rockies ticket hotline: 303-993-3501 or by visiting their website: www.soundoftherockies.com.
