The 52eighty Youth Chorus (52eightychorus.com) is in its 6th year, having gained momentum and recognition each year in its quest to provide Denver area young men (30 and under) with a chance to sing award-winning a cappella music. As a protege of the Sound of the Rockies chorus, itself an award-winning chorus of over 100 men, 52eighty has represented Denver in the annual International Youth Chorus Festival in Las Vegas, Pasadena, Orlando, Tampa, and Tucson and will travel to Long Beach, Calif. in January, 2014, in an attempt to win the Gold Medal, a feat they already accomplished in 2010 after only two years in existence.
Ranging in age from 13 to 30 the young men of 52eighty represent Denver-area middle and high schools as well as local colleges and include some post-college professionals as well. Rehearsing just twice a month they will have had 12 rehearsals by the time they hit the stage in Long Beach on January 31st where they hope to outscore 25 other choruses.
You can hear this precision ensemble just prior to their departure for Long Beach by attending their Send-Off Concert on Tuesday evening, Jan. 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 7691 S. University Blvd., Centennial, Colorado. This performance is open to the public (with a free will donation at the door) and will include performances by other prominent a cappella groups. A Silent Auction sponsored by the Sound of the Rockies chorus will be conducted, the proceeds from which will help fund 52eighty’s travel expenses to the International Youth Chorus Festival in Long Beach. CDs will also be on sale.
This is a great chance for young singers to hear other young singers perform in an ensemble made up of young men from across the Denver Metro area, all with a desire to perform at a high level alongside friends with the same goals. Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear what focus, drive, determination, talent and great direction can produce. Gather up some friends and support the growing a cappella resurgence.
