Fathers Day concert to feature barbershop quartet champion Crossroads

This Fathers Day, the Sound of the Rockies men’s chorus will be hosting a concert that will be perfect for dads of all ages.  Although Barbershop music has its roots in Americana of the 1930s and 40s, contemporary barbershop groups sing arrangements from a wide variety of musical styles.  Come see for yourself the new barbershop of renowned barbershop quartet, Crossroads plus two of Denver’s own award-winning men’s barbershop groups on stage in a “Summer Spectacular” on Sunday, June 21st at 3:30 p.m.  The concert will be held at the beautiful June Swaner Gates Concert Hall at the University of Denver, Newman Center with guest Emcee Rick Crandall from AM 1430 KEZW radio.

The featured guest quartet, Crossroads, is the 2009 International Quartet Champion of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  The group is made up of four barbershop legends, all previous quartet champion singers and versatile award-winning vocalists.  The group is one of the most sought after a cappella foursomes in the world, having performed in Germany, France, Finland, the U.K., Spain and in several states across the US.

“In my opinion, Crossroads is one of the best barbershop quartets ever formed” says Mark Hale, Music Director of Sound of the Rockies and lead singer of the 2001 International Quartet Champion, Michigan Jake.  “This is a great opportunity for music lovers to see a great quartet singing fun songs at the highest level.”

Another quartet that will be featured on the concert will be local favorite, McPhly, the 2008 Rocky Mountain District Champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  This savvy ensemble has been progressively achieving higher placement in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s international competition and most recently finished in 14th place among hundreds of entrants in Las Vegas in July of 2014.

This concert is hosted by the local, world renowned a cappella men’s chorus, Sound of the Rockies.  Come and listen to them sing arrangements of songs by the Beatles, Credence Clearwater Revival and other well-known songs for all generations.  The twelve-time Rocky Mountain District Champion and a six-time international bronze medalist has a lot to share with a new director and lots of exciting new music.  For details and examples of their music, visit www.soundoftherockies.com.
