On Saturday March 22nd, Colorado-based men’s chorus, Sound of the Rockies will be teaming up with the internationally-acclaimed barbershop quartet Mainstreet (www.mainstreetqt.com) to bring world-class a cappella entertainment to the Denver area. The two groups will be putting on two shows at 2:00 and 7:30 pm in the beautiful Gates Concert hall at The University of Denver, Newman Center. This collaborative concert will feature many songs performed by Sound of the Rockies in the theme of “Pirates” – sea faring songs that showcase the motif of the chorus’ latest contest package being prepared for the upcoming International Barbershop Harmony contest in Las Vegas over the week of July 4th. The chorus will include the two-song contest package in the concert , giving concert goers an idea of what one of the best barbershop choruses in the world actually does in an international Barbershop Harmony competition.
The performance will introduce many of the Sound of the Rockies’ local audience members to the wonderful sounds and highly entertaining show of the award-winning quartet, Mainstreet. Established in 2011, Main Street quartet hearkens back to the traditional style of barbershop harmony with soft shoe dance, slapstick routines and nostalgic songs – tipping their hat to the performances from turn of the century song and dance men. Whether it’s the waltz clog, a silly one-liner or a tender ballad of romance, a typical Main Street show will pay respect to the creative singers, dancers and humorists who blazed the trail entertaining audiences around the world. In July of 2012, Main Street once again placed fifth in the world at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Convention in Portland, OR. They are also the 2011 Sunshine District quartet champions out of Florida.
It is a much anticipated event for Colorado’s premier a cappella chorus and local non-profit, Sound of the Rockies. And with the help of Mainstreet as well as a few of the best local barbershop quartets, this show is sure to be the highlight of Denver’s a cappella entertainment scene this spring.
